WordCamp Lehigh Valley Adds Cassidy Expertise

WordPress powers more than one-third of websites worldwide. According to Brenda Barron, an active online publisher and experienced WordPress blogger, “That means that around 75,000,000 websites are using WordPress right now.” So for bloggers, business owners, designers, and developers, understanding WordPress is essential. With this in mind, WordCamp Lehigh Valley is back for its fourth year presenting a full-day event on August 17. WordCamps are informal events organized by the local WordPress user community helping everyone from casual users to core developers learn, share ideas, establish best practices, and build strong relationships.

This year the information-packed schedule for WordCamp Lehigh Valley includes Cassidy expertise. Creative Director Kelly Vanek will be among the presenters. At 10:45 am, Kelly will discuss “On Point Web Design with the User in Mind.” Her message addresses what makes a website truly engaging. The simple answer: Quality user-centered design. Effective digital design is determined by the user and his/her needs and expectations. The leap to user-centered design involves four vital elements:

  1. Who cares: Know your user
  2. Anything is possible, not everything is recommended: Understand the limitations of the web
  3. Build from a solid foundation: Use proven design principles (fonts, images, white space, consistent content),
  4. Look ahead: Be prepared for change

Get more information about WordCamp Lehigh Valley. We look forward to connecting with you at Northampton Community College — Fowler Family Southside Center, 511 East Third Street, Bethlehem, Pa. 18015, 6th floor.

Cassidy Receives Praise for “The Pennsylvania Lawyer” Magazine

Most people see magazine publications every day. Whether it’s checking out at the grocery store, waiting in the lobby of the doctor’s office, or one that shows up inexplicably to your door every so often, they’re all around us.

The easy access to these printed materials often makes their publication seem like a simple venture, when really it is anything but. A high-quality edition provides an effortless read, but behind the scenes, it takes a detail-oriented process to shape and edit both the design and content for it to appear straightforward and engaging.

At Cassidy, we take great pride in the character and quality of our work on the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s (PBA) bimonthly publication of The Pennsylvania Lawyer magazine. From cover art to pull quotes, we expend time and energy to ensure each piece fits together smoothly, like a puzzle ultimately forming a beautiful picture through its many segments.

We are pleased to say that our most recent issue of the magazine was well received. Here is some of the feedback the PBA collected from the contributing authors about the January 2019:

“Beautiful job with the layout, as always. Love the men of the Hundred!”
“You have done a splendid job with layout and design. A very attractive production indeed..!”
“[T]hanks for the professional presentation of the article.”

Hershey, Pa. • The AACA Museum presents the “Night at the Museum” Annual Gala and Charity Auction, Wednesday, October 10. This year’s multi-faceted event features a new partnership, the Automotive Heritage Award presentation, and a salute to Tucker’s 70th Anniversary. The AACA team selected Cassidy to provide creative direction for the event and design print/digital promotional materials.

About the event

Partnering with Homeland Hospice, the museum adopted the theme “Hope and Heritage.” First, guests enjoy an hors-d’oeuvres and cocktails reception where a variety of beautiful vintage vehicles will be on display. Following the reception, are an elegant dinner and awards presentation. Later, the program concludes with a LIVE Auction presented by the Katz Family Foundation. Most importantly, proceeds from the event provide benevolent care and support for hospice patients and their families and support the museum’s outreach programs.

Honoring Gale Halderman, Ford Mustang’s Designer

This year’s Automotive Heritage Award recipient is Gale Halderman. Halderman designed the original Ford Mustang. To create the famous design, Halderman worked closely with Lee Iacocca, Hal Sperlich, and Joe Oros. Surprisingly, Oros asked him to come up with design ideas overnight. The next day, one of his six sketches was selected out of the two-dozen designs submitted. After penning the Mustang’s now-iconic shape, Halderman was tasked with leading the design team. He took the 1965 Mustang from concept to clay, and from feasibility through production.

Celebrating Tucker

Further, the gala recognizes the 70th Anniversary of Tucker. In the mid-1940s, Preston Tucker and his Chicago-based Tucker Corporation set out to revolutionize the automobile industry. They designed and built 51 examples of an innovative rear-engine sedan that boasted an array of safety features unmatched in the post-war American automobile market. Proudly, the museum’s Tucker collection is the world’s largest and shares the complete history of Preston Tucker and his life’s work.

Monroe Transit rolls out new buses at the West End Fair

Swiftwater, Pa. • Recently Monroe County Transit Authority (MCTA) — “The Pocono Pony” — was awarded a grant that allowed the agency to augment their shared-ride service fleet. The new-look “Pocono Pony” buses, designed by Cassidy, debuted at MCTA’s booth at the West End Fair, Gilbert, Pa.

Driver side of bus
The driver side focuses on three key passenger destinations.

The buses meet all ADA requirements and carry forth the refreshed “Pocono Pony” branding. The driver side highlights three popular passenger destinations: MCTA trips, workplaces, and shopping  areas. The passenger side gives an “inside view” of convenient shared-ride transportation for those who qualify for service.

Cassidy has worked with the MCTA team since 2005 developing the “Pocono Pony” brand and introducing the first marketing strategy. The brand earned multiple national transit awards.

In 2017, Cassidy assisted with the effort to refresh the “Pony” brand and the development of several key assets to build awareness and ridership. Among those were concepts and storyboards for travel training videos for fixed route and shared ride service. Additionally Cassidy presented an organizational style guide and brand book, along with specialty artwork. Cassidy continues to provide brand strategy and creative consulting.
